Big Wins, Tough Losses

The last few weeks have featured some great hockey games for the Dragons, with strong wins as well as close losses.  The boys battled hard against D2 #8 ranked Howell, falling 1-3 as Howell scored 2 3rd period goals to secure the victory.  The Dragons bounced back two days later in a comeback road win against Jackson United, 8-6.  After going down 4-6, LO battled back by scoring 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to close out an exciting game.

The following week produced a win and a loss in 2 league games.  D1 #12 ranked Birmingham Unified defeated LO 4-5 in another hard fought game that included Dragon forward Nick Haddad’s first varsity goal.  The following Saturday LO came out on top against Bloomfield Hills 3-1, with Sophomore goalie Lucas Haddad securing his first varsity win, and Grant Peterson scoring his first varsity goal.

In maybe the best game of the season so far, the Dragons lost a heartbreaker to D1 #6 ranked Farmington United 3-4 in overtime.  The Dragons played a strong game, coming back from a two goal deficit to tie with only a minute left in regulation on Andy Potyk’s clutch goal.  Unfortunately a questionable too many men on the ice penalty with 10 seconds left in the 3rd led to a Farm U Power Play in overtime which they converted for the victory.

More tough opponents await for the Dragons as we wrap up the pre-Christmas break slate.  Games vs. Allen Park (12/15), Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard/Greenhills (12/21) and rival Clarkston (12/22) will provide good tests as the first part of the season winds down.
